Join us for a hands-on, 3-hour, jewelry-making workshop where you’ll create a stunning fine silver (or base-metal) pendant using metal clay and sparkling fire-in-place cultured opals. Perfect for intermediate makers, this class will guide you through the entire process—from forming and texturing the silver clay to setting opals that can withstand kiln firing.
Under expert instruction, you’ll learn:
How to properly texture and shape fine silver metal clay (or specific base metals)
Techniques for incorporating textures and design elements
Setting fire-in-place cultured opals safely and securely
Drying, refining, and preparing your piece for firing
Kiln firing and post-firing finishing techniques (polishing, patinas, etc.)
By the end of class, you'll have a beautifully finished, one-of-a-kind pendant that’s ready to wear or give as a gift.
Students are expected to pre-purchase a 3-5mm cultured, fire-in-place opal to bring to class from www.hollygage.com
Base metals must be able to fire at 1650°F (899°C) or LOWER to be used in this project.
A minimum of 15g of metal clay is strongly suggested for this class
