Classic Mitsuro Hikime wax blend
Golden Kitsune Wax is a traditional Japanese Mitsuro Hikime recipe made in small batches with beeswax from local Western Washington apiaries focused on the ethical harvesting of the wax and honey. This way, we can help support local apiaries with a focus on bees and hive health. The rosin mixture includes locally and sustainably harvested pine resin. This combination gives our wax an exquisite texture, beautiful color, and a subtle butterscotch scent without added dyes or fragrance.

Mitsuro Hikime 蜜蝋引き目
Golden Kitsune Mitsuro Hikime wax is created from beeswax, rosin, and paraffin. It is ancient Japanese sculpting wax recipe has been made with these natural ingredients, dating back at least 1300 years. Similar wax blends have been developed and used for thousands of years around the world for lost wax casting and other applications. Mitsuro Hikime is known for its delicate, organic, sinewy striations that resemble the texture of grass or flowing water. It is also called “honey wax” or “taffy wax” because of the delicate texture created when pulling and folding. Mitsuro Hikime roughly translates to “Drawing Honey Texture with beeswax.”

Our wax is made in small batches with beeswax and pine resin from Washington State. The wax has been filtered multiple times and is ready to use. Batches may vary in color due to the organic nature of the ingredients. All ingredients are food-grade.
To use:
- Warm up a bit of wax- you can use your hands to knead the wax. If the wax or studio is too cool, put some water in a shallow glass or silicone bowl on a coffee warmer. Bring the water to about 140° F. Roll the wax into a cigar-shape. Start pulling and folding the wax to get the desired sinewy texture.
- If the wax begins to get too warm, let it rest on a cool surface on parchment paper. If sticky on your fingers, wet them with a bit of water. If the wax breaks or seems overworked, “seedy,” or you have leftover bits, you can remelt it in a silicone cup at 220°F and filter through t-shirt fabric into water, let it cool, and use it again.
- The wax can be fragile after cooling. So, handle with a delicate touch.
- Avoid spruing directly onto the delicate texture, where it is going to show after casting. Handle with care before investing for lost wax casting.
- A small amount of oil will remove any stickiness from your hands when you are finished.
