Let’s learn how to hollow form some bells! We will introduce cutting a pattern, stamping and forming techniques, forming blocks, hammers, and stamps. You will learn the tricks to a variety of methods that will allow you to form metal sheet into bell forms that create an enchanting sound.  We will demonstrate a wide variety of hammers and forming tools used to create traditional and non-traditional techniques for bell making.

Demonstrations will include using all of the dapping block and swage block grooves to form things like domes and curves.

Level: Beginner & Intermediate level

All classes include the video recording, which you will have access to for 60 days after the class. The Zoom link, handouts, video(s), and other important information can be found by clicking on the individual class link on the "My Courses" page. The Zoom link and handout (if any) will be available 24 hours before the class starts.

You also get 1 free session of Open Studio Access (OSA) in the month following your class, the Zoom link can be found on the course video access page.

Recommended Materials:

  • Sterling sheet, 24 gauge, 3" x 3”. 
  • Sterling round wire, approximately 20g
  • Optional - Sheets of copper and brass in 22-26g are available at local hardware stores. Nickel silver or gold-filled work, too. 

Remember, the smaller the bell, the thinner the gauge you will need.
