If you’ve ever admired beautifully flared collets, elegant crown settings, or perfectly fitted tube settings and wondered how to create them yourself, this workshop is for you. These professional setting techniques not only secure stones beautifully—they add refinement, sophistication, and a level of craftsmanship that transforms ordinary jewelry into exceptional work.

In this live online workshop, Jennifer Stenhouse will guide you through the process of designing and fabricating a wide variety of collet, tapered tube, and crown settings using bezel-forming blocks, mandrels, tubing, and sheet metal. Rather than relying on commercial findings, you’ll learn how to build custom settings that perfectly complement your stones and your personal design style.

Through detailed demonstrations, discover how to flare and taper tubing, fabricate elegant collets and crowns, accurately measure and prepare tubing, and cut precise tube settings ready for stones. Jennifer will also share design strategies that help you choose the right setting style to enhance a stone’s shape, proportions, and brilliance.

These versatile techniques can be adapted for faceted round, oval, square, marquise, rose-cut, cabochon, and many other gemstone shapes, opening up countless possibilities for pendants, rings, earrings, and one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Whether you choose to work alongside each demonstration or simply observe and absorb the techniques, you’ll leave with a toolbox of professional stone-setting methods that will elevate both your technical skills and your design vocabulary for years to come.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Recommended Materials:

A variety of sterling tubes and faceted stones (or CZ’s) for the tube setting demonstration.

Faceted stones should be the same size to half a millimeter smaller than the tube for the flared tube setting purposes. (Ex: stone is 3.5 mm, regular wall seamless tube should be 3.5-4 mm.)

Also helpful to have:

Supplies from the hardware store:

  • Heavy brass-headed mallet (Great for all kinds of shaping and stamping)
  • Safety glasses
  • Emery paper
  • Wet/dry emery paper, 200/400/600
