Etching is a fabulous way to add design and dimension to a flat sheet of metal. We will cover both chemical and electro-etching in this information packed class, going over setting up for the different types of etching as well as recipes for the baths for etching silver, copper (inc. copper alloys like nickel silver and brass), and steel.
For electro-etching, you will also learn how you can make your own inexpensive power supply from a re-purposed phone/other appliance charger. Other power supply options will also be discussed, and you will learn to SAFELY set up and manage your electro-etching.
Designs for the etching resist can be printed on Press and Peel Blue paper using most regular laser printers or photocopiers, or you can use vinyl stickers, nail polish, paint pens, etc.
Demonstrations will include transferring laser printer designs to a metal sheet using PnP Blue paper, mixing chemicals, setting up both chemical and electro-etching baths, measuring the depth of the etch, and much more.
Beginners welcome.
WARNING! Electro etching requires the use of an electric power supply. This power supply poses the risk of electric shock and could result in serious injury or death. Use at your own risk.
All classes include the video recording, which you will have access to for 60 days after the class. The Zoom link, handouts, video(s), and other important information can be found by clicking on the individual class link on the "My Courses" page. The Zoom link and handout (if any) will be available 24 hours before the class starts.
You also get 1 free session of Open Studio Access (OSA) in the month following your class, the Zoom link can be found on the course video access page.
The class supply list is below and contains links to buy the supplies you need.
