This class will be recorded, and the recording will be available for students to access through their Little Metal Foxes accounts for a full month after the live class.
In this 4 session online workshop, participants will be introduced to the various ways that metalsmiths and jewelers utilize a sketchbook within their art practice. Together, we will examine the insides of the sketchbooks of established and emerging contemporary artists. Students will see these examples alongside images of the artist's completed pieces.
Over the course of the sessions, students will be guided through exercises to begin and maintain a sketchbook practice. Prompts to be completed outside of class will be designed to increase visual literacy, work through concepts and ideas, foster creativity and promote reflection about metal and jewelry works. Class time will be reserved during the last three sessions for students to share progress from their own sketchbooks. Students will leave the course with a sketchbook full of thoughtful reflections on jewelry and images they find inspiring.
