Jewelers make lots of settings with wire. But now can you create unique settings for your stones with the assistance of a basket soldering template. Lion Punch Forge has titanium templates for wire prong settings that can help hold parts while soldering. The standard set includes four basic geometric shapes with 4, 5, 6, & 8-prong templates. There are a ton of set-up options that can create something unique. These soldering templates can be used for so much more as well. During this class, we will focus on the techniques used to make unique settings using wire to create simple prong settings for jewelry. Students will learn by practicing the techniques demonstrated using wire for creating a variety of settings for found objects, cabochons, and faceted stones. Demos will include how to set up complex solderings, adaptive settings, and how to use several wire profiles to make prongs. The focus will be on demos, practicing the techniques, soldering, and construction tricks that help hold the work together. Students are encouraged to bring questions, stones, and LPF Templates.
Prerequisite: soldering skills. To get a refresher on solder, check out the core skills soldering class.
